Kalbe’s Imperial Accordion Made in Germany Gold Medal Melbourne
Accordion, German style 1890-1910. Ten metal keys on right hand end; on left hand end two metal keys for bass chords and one key for the bellows; Above right hand grip, one stop pull key plus one imitation stop pull key; case of black polished wood and one panel of pale green painted wood trim; bellows has nine folds and cover is black with gold stars and black reinforced edges; nickel plated fittings; leather strap lined in red felt to support left hand and two cloth ring supports for right thumb (Missing). Markins read "Kalbe's Imperial Accordion, Patente no. 429763 2730 58249, gold medal Melbourne." and "patent u.s. 429763, Gebrauchsmuster, 10873 9100 460/1, made in Germany.". nickel plated markings on corners of bellows read "imperial accordion, made in Germany, trade mark" with images of two fouled anchors.
Condition:
Restoration Project. This piece will require restoration and repair.
There is wear on the outside detail.
There is a weighty piece rattling inside.
There are chips to the outside wood.
There are sections around the accordion attachment to the wood that have been repaired by tape.
Red leather strap in red felt is missing.
This piece was previously owned by world traveler and collector in Laguna Beach California.
